Tranny or new car?

Post by ELmeano »

Well ive been thinking of getting a new car. But something bout my car i just like that makes me wanna stay with it. I need a tranny bad,.i know i got the power but my damn tranny is such a piece i cant get any of it. A transmission would really rehabilitate my car. The mods are very cheap and give impressive gains. Now that i have an lsd the pos transmission really shows. high performance tranny runs bout 6-700 bucs and pops offers to go half. Now i gotta re idle my car cuz i got it idling so low it doesnt wanna start :( So just curious on what u guys think i should do. I know hardly anyone here knows me so my car is described in the sig,

If thats the only problem $350 should be no big deal, do it. When you love your car its worth the extra hassels.

Have you looked into converting over to a T5. I researched the idea for my f-body, it was going to run right around 1k with rebuilt trans. If you had the money it would be pretty sweet to run the T56, than you could run a 4:10 gear. All you would have to do is stab the gas you would be sideways.
man this is a bad month for trannies.
We can add another one to the list. I blew mine into pile of chunked metal when the ring and pinion shot through the diff housing. Of course i didn;t realize it untill i installed the new diff. and tried to break it in on the lift.

thanks for the info. Yea i looked into the T5 tranny conversion and after reading little bout it, its more work and money then id want to spend-lol. I also thought of the bench seat and a floor shifter..........eh no fun. Even with i convert to buckets the floor shifter just wouldnt be right, never in the right place. I dont think i could drive hard and manage all the shifting in such an awkward spot. Im used to those jap-fall right in your hand shifter-lol. Im also thinking bout just putting a shit kit in it and see how much better it gets.
