i "got started" back during my junior year of high school. i was 16 and i was gonna be the next mike shumaker macher whatever. i drove the ltd back then it was awesome. the dumb thing wasn't fast, it wasn't even fuel injected, but it had torque and an open diff which meant turning left rocked my face off. but i didn't learn what drifting was till that xmas when my bro brought home initial d. it was so awesome (i'm such an initial d nerd) then after that i started learning everything i could about it, i started downloading drift videos at school and at home and reading about it on webpages. back then there wasn't much so i cherished what little i had and sort of kept it all to myself. now i don't practice much unless it rains (poor college kid=can't afford anything) but i autocross as much as possible and i read all the books about driving technique and chassis tuning i can find. yay for the tech school. oh haha and i drive a civic now. haha, but we take the vic out when it rains.

oh and shopping carts rool if and only if they have sound effects,or ground effects

Well.. it all started out by getting a 750 dollar speeding ticket in my dad's Mercedes. I went to court and they made me take a defensive driving class. I ended up taking X-treme Measures at Atlanta Motor Speedway which I thought was going to be the typical boring safety class. It turned out that 3 of the teachers there were BMW racers that knew alot about drifting. Everyday we would slide through cones on a giant parkinglot that was soaped down by big trucks. They taught me how to use the throttle to control the back, countersteering, etc... and by the end I could control my car when it was totally out of control. It was awesome, but I never really tried drifting after this.

About a month later, I was speeding up to catch the arrow in the left hand turn lane. It was pouring rain and I downshifted to second gear and tried to rev-match. Well I accidentally over-reved and lost the back end while I was making the turn. I slid about 60 feet completely sideways into the shopping center turn in road. I totally wasn't expecting this to happen but instinctivly counter-steered and use the gas to get me through the little 10 foot gap where I was turning in. I just sat there stopped sideways in the entrance to the shopping center hysterically laughing. I had so much adrenaline running through me that I didn't notice the three cars blaring their horns at me to move. Right there I truly realized what drifting really was .. and I've been loving every minute of it ever since.

i only do it because my parents forced me into it. i wanted to take ballet lessons but they said "no way any son of ours is going to act like a pansy and wear tights". football was out, i just wanted to be a cheerleader the whole time. soccer was ok, but i wasn't a fan of getting grass stains on my gucci soccer shoes. the only thing left was figure skating, but what kind of queer wants to do that? so drifting it was

someday i'll make my folks proud, someday.

I actually started back in 89' with my FOERST Vehicle. A 67' VW Bug Baja. I grew up in a Small Hick town just north of Pensacola, FL. And there was really nothing to do but go hunting and fishing. There's several types of Deer hunting and "Runnin' Dawgs" was one of them. Which ment that you find fresh tracks and let the dogs smell it and off they go after the Deer. But you have to stay up with the dogs by talking to each other CB's and trying to figure which Direction the deer and dogs are headed so that you can end up in front of the deer at some point and get a shot at it before it disappears in the woods again. And in the midst of all this craziness you're driving like a manic to get to all of these places which means that you're Drifting turns to get to where you have to be.
After a while me and some of my friends frigured that we love the driving more than the Runnin' Dawgs. So we would go out to the woods and just go "Ridin".. We call it Drifting now a days.
After my Bug was crunched by some Old guy in an Brand New 89' Ford Tempo right off of the Dealer Lot, I bought a 79' Datsun P'up Truck. which I instantly started "ridin'" or "Durfting" in the Woods.
I actually didn't get to start Drifting my 1st car until I bought my 1st Supra in 99'. It was a 94' and I think I was trying to drift it on the very FOERST day. I didn't know it was called Drifting til a few years later.
I don't practice much just because I'm simply scared of going to Jail again.. That shiot ain't no joke. But when I find a legal spot I'll get the ol' skills back it'll be really kewl.
