Damn this really sucks for dennis, totally cool guy.Glad no serious injuries happened.
Thats just ridiculous, they preach this pro event bull shit like its a way to cover a unsafe course. Well thats BS, the cars being driven are more than likely built and funded by the drivers, not a major sponser. So a wreck like this turns into months of debt and long long after work hours of repair, or total rebuilds. Yea K-rails work good to keep spectatures safe but not drivers. Even if you walked away from this wreck, doesnt mean you didnt hurt yourself, once the adrenaline wears you are going to feel some serious pain.andysapp wrote: So basically...
Either kill yourself in our PRO series or shut the fuck up.
I'm sorry, but that just INFURIATES ME to no avail.

The more I look at those pictures, the more upset it makes me.
This should never happen in a parking-lot course, IMHO.
I'm beyond glad Dennis was okay.
Those pictures give me the chills.
unfortunately, after one of the judges (wes) said "if we fix this it comes out of your practice time so you can either wait for us to move these or just be professional drivers and drive it like this".... a bunch of people suddenly got gung-ho and voted by show of hands to leave it that way. the only people really out there fighting to get it changed were dennis/rob fleming and myself. the originaly layout of the wall was EXTREMELY dangerous and they only changed it slightly to help our initial concern with it. the other big problem with this wall was that the barriers were the small type so when dennis hit the FOERST one it broke in half and moved leaving him to hit the next one on the end. at that point it's like a concrete knife on your car rather than a blunt hit from the side and that's where the major damage came from.
God damn thats just ridiculous. How could the be much less professional about a serious matter like safety.icantdrift wrote:andysapp wrote:A PROFESSIONAL series should NEVER ignore a majority concensus on a safety issue like that.

i'm getting even more pissed off looking at some of the posts about this on nopiforums. as much as i like the judges as people and friends (jacob for instance is a really cool guy, i don't know wes and ernie as much but they seem really cool), some of this "entertain the crowd over driver safety" stuff is getting out of hand.
one of the drivers made some comments/complaints about a few things that happened at the event (the dangerous entry/k-rail, nopi triple stacking cones, and a few other items), and here were some of the replies...
Triple stacked cones - to discourage people from hitting them. It seems as though some of the drivers don't respect the cones, and think that hitting them is ok. therefore, we wanted to reinforce them so that hitting them makes a bigger impact. Glenn came up with the idea of filling them with quick-mix cement for the next event, we're looking into the possibility of that...
lining course with cones - to give the crowd a visual of how the course is laid out. This isn't a practice event, you shouldn't be making it a routine to go 'off course'. Ideally, we'll be lining the full course with k-rail.
Dangerous entry - this is a professional series. Danger is one of the elements which gets the crowd excited. There will continue to be elements of "danger" to encourage the driver skill to increase.
total WTF to the points i put in bold. maybe it's just me, but this shit is just ridiculous. entertaining the crowd is definately fun and all, but having 1/2 the field wreck and one guy destroy his car, and not even seeming to care is over the line.

I need to stop reading this shit because it makes my blood pressure rise.
Quick-mix cement?!?! Are you fucking KIDDING ME?!?
If you want to entertain a crowd... START A FUCKING CIRCUS.
Why not use Panzer tanks shooting live ammunition as k-rails, and anti-personnel mines as clipping points?
You want to line an entire course with k-rail... knock yourself out. Just don't skimp out with the cheap small ones that DON'T INTERLOCK, and create unduly dangerous environment to drive in.
Yes, drifting is dangerous. We all know that. But it is VERY easy to take that level of danger and elevate it to something deadly. If the organizers says "oh well... he shouldn't have hit our triple stacked cones and gone off course"... then we have bigger problems at hand.

Yeah fuck the guys that make these events possible, without the driver you have nothing. With attudes like that not many people are going to be attending their events. Come on concrete filled clipping points, since when was the object of the sport to destroy cars, or more importantly hurt the drivers. BRILLIANT!! Everyone spins out, everyone, no matter what skill level. This is not grassroots friendly, i wouldnt drive in a event with attudes like this, and if i did i would be to concerned about pushing it past 100% in fear destroying my car or killing myself.
