You know something... I have to say this:

EVERYONE wants more events. People complain that there aren't enough legal outlets to race/drift. Here is an excellent opportunity, and nobody signs up?
Come on Atlanta. That is just REDICULOUS.

I'm tired of Atlanta being so segregated and separated with it's drift community(ies). There are too many organizations trying to throw events, and as a result... the community has transformed into it's little cliques, and all these loyalist-type people don't attend other organization's events (there are definitely exceptions to that statement, btw).

Atlanta is not working together, and IT'S WACK.

I remember a day when Atlanta had NO events, and a select few of us had to travel the Eastern seaboard to drift legally. That has since changed in an amazing way...
but people here don't realize how lucky they are to have events the way we do.

If you don't support those events, then good luck to you all.

as much as I agree with you statement andy (especially the seperations) I have to say that I still feel the same way about that venue that I did last year. I hate to see any event get canned due to lack of participation but this has happened at BHC before. chris I can't wait for another drift 411 event so I can truly suporrt you guys!

THANK YOU!!!!!
I couldn't agree more. The segregation of drivers is becoming more and more apparent every day. Take the driftMechaniks team itself. We are a group of drivers who ultimately have gone in different directions with different companies. For example: me with SEDA and Drift411, Andy with NOPI, Drift Empire, Drift Fury, martymartymarty.net with DG Trials, and so on. Despite the fact that we all are associated and/or work with different organizations, it doesn't mean we are now enemies or against each other in anyway.... or by any means. Its the complete opposite. The driftMechaniks started off as a team of drivers, expanding and are now taking the drift community by storm via behind the wheel, on the bullhorn, and under the coordinators umbrella. Its THAT kind of mentality that creates great teams, great drivers, amazing friends and an even stronger community.

We all knew, 3 years ago, when drifting started to spawn in the Atlanta area that drama and politics would soon follow. But to see some of you being intimidated by what other people think, say and do... frankily pisses me off. Every one of the organizations in Atlanta (Drift411, DG Trials, Drift Fury, and SEDA) ALL bust their ass to bring you, the driver, a legal place to hone your skills. And I assure you it is NOT cheap to do so. I, for one, work from home and put literally over 30hrs a week into drifting and coordinating and I have no doubt that Eric, Tracy, and Mike Sims are right there with me. That means rather than earning money for my family and the build of my car, Im (we!) are working for you. But when stuff like this happens, it makes me wonder if our efforts as organizers are truly appreciated or respected.

The drifters of America are already looked upon as "spoiled". Coming from some one who loves drifting with every fiber in my body..... I (Im sure I can speak for Andy on this one) am relying on ALL of you to not support that fact/opinion.

However, on the other hand, I am NOT blaming the cancellation of this event purely on "segregation". I realize the BHC is certainly not the FOERST choice for a drift event. So, in light of that, we will be taking the Biathlon format/structure to another venue which is better suited.

That is a valid point that I had not thought about. I agree, BHC isn't the safest of locales for motorsports, so perhaps that is why there wasn't a larger turnout.

Maybe I have some pent up frustrations at how drifting has been going lately. I know I am guilty of some separation stuff as well... and trust me, I've long since realized how idiotic it is... so I can shake the preaching stick too hard. I'm not even shaking it at anyone specific - just Atlanta as a whole, I suppose.

We've all put a lot into this sport. Hell, I'm eating ramen this very second, because I quit my effing job to edit a documentary about it all. It aggravates me to see some of the things happening that are going on, because I feel like people are losing sight of things.

Ill be honest, i look up to the dM guys, they were the FOERST to welcome me on to this drift scene, Andy and Chris were the FOERST 2 guys that that encouraged me to even start drifting.

Guys we are lucky, i mean i look at my schedule for this season, and i am amazed, between our new SCCA Drift series, Drift Fury, and D411, i have a event every couple of weeks, and dont have to travel that far to get there (i consider everything under 4 hours not far)

I know personally, i will be supporting all local drift events above all else, i even had 3 teams registered for the Biathalon

We are in my opinion the number one city for drifting in the east coast, Atlanta has got it on lock, thats why i think its only fitting that the Nopi Drift Worid finals are here.

I understand what everybody sayes about black hills, and, i understand their concern, hell even i hit a tire at the last event there (someones smart wisdom put a tire on the apex of one of the turns in the esses), but the secret to black hills is only take it as far as you feel comfortable, there are many corners u can take as a beginner that are fairly easy

Everyone sounds like they are on the right track. Now we just have to get these events full. Please try to get all your "racehead" friends to participate in these events, even if only to be a spectator. No spectators-no sponsers. I really like the emotional attachment you guys have for the sport, it really reflects well on people when you give a damn about it.

Before I start, I am in total agreeance with what has been said.

Now,

What people need to understand that is with the blowup of events lately, there will be lower turnouts. For a few reasons.

1. Some dates may overlap. It's happened before and it will happen again. I know there are some local events that I want to attend, but it interferes with NOPI.

2. A majority of drifters are broke. Sorry to say but it's true. People complain about $65 and $90 events and I got tons of emails saying how we're crazy for $180 for a private day. They can't afford all these events (2-3 per month)

3. More events regionally and more drivers with willing to stretch out of their region. A lot of ATL drivers are going to out of state events now more than 2 years ago. I've seen it in Texas and Virginia as well.
I am very safety driver!!!!!!!!!
