My friend had one. The leather was comfy, but that's about all I know.

Get a RX-8 and some cushions.

It has a Opel engine, but opel never used it. They ended up giving it to saab bacause it was such a pos. Saab then tried to fix its piss poor timing belt but couldn't because they are drunk swedes. So if you don't change the belt every 60k w/ the 3 pullies and tensioners ($500) then the belt comes untimed smashing every valve, cracking the valve guides and putting cracks in the pistons. Oh and they also put the oil cooler in the middle of the engine V so it likes to piss coolant out cooler cover.

I just flipped through the 2003 Consumer Report Used car guide and they have the Catera listed at the top (alphabetically) of the "Worst Used Cars" list. "The vehicles on this list have had more problems than average. Buying one could be asking for trouble."

I say keep looking.

EEEK! Yeah after seeing the stories on here and doing some reserech myself i think i will pass on the Catera. What was good on the consumer reports list for like luxery sedans? Or can you get that info somewere of the internet. I kinda want something like the Catera i think, maby a LH V6, or even a BMW. I do not realy want to spend more than like i dono 12grand. I want it to be nice, i have two little "sports cars" for fast driving needs so i want something pimp with big comfy leather seats and what not. Also i have seen some of the Type S jags for like 17 or so.

My Dad got one as a company car back in '99... it was an awful car. Always overheating, losing coolant, and being an overall pain in the arse. It would get stuck in park (and I mean stuck), and I would have to disassemble around the shifter and pry the release with a screwdriver. It was always losing it's charge and going dead. It was awful.

I vote against the Catera. They are indeed problematic.

Since you dont want to spend more then 12grand, then a E36 328i or even a E36 ///M3 would be great. From what ive heard, the 8series V12's are dogs with fleas, so stay away from those. Good Hunting

From what I hear.. The V12 motor in the 8 series is great, but the chassis itself of the 8 is terrible. The whole car, from what I heard just sort of falls apart around the motor. Just what my dad was told by some BMW nut :D
