• toyota problem???

Ok my wifes 96 carolla is overheathing in traffic. The fan is not kicking on. In my CRX it did the same thing and i took the plug of the sensor "becuse it usaly messes up the radeator when you take the sensor out" and then i cut the wires and wired them together and the fan runs when the key is on and it has always woorked fine and i eventualy ran a togal switch from there and what not when i had more time. But on my wifes carolla i can not find the damn sensor or even know if that would work. Anyone have any ideas?????

can you not just take the wires that power the fan and wire them so that its on all the time like on the crx? or get one of those little sensors they use on e-fans that has a little probe that goes in between the fins, and you can adjust what temp. the fan will cut the fans on?

Most Toyota fans are wired in open loop, so unplug the sensor and the fans should run all the time. As far as where the sensor is, I can't help you there.

Fan switch is located on the thermostat housing. Follow your lower radiator hose and it's there. It's a one wire connector. I would also check fuses and relays to your cooling fan.

you have to make sure its a toyota special service axe, or it won't fit.

More than likely its your thermostat. Your fan should still work never the less but a corolla should not over heat without a fan. I ran no fan on my ka for over a year and did fine. Besides that's a 5 dollar part and its so easy to change. There is no need for some sort of half ass wire job. Just my 2 cents.

I don't know of any car that can sit in traffic w/o a radiator fan and not overheat. can do without one in moving traffic though and heater on full blast.

I agree with that. My eight-six has a fan, and still overheats in traffik.
But that's why I love her.

Word my CRX is the same way. I found the sensor and orderd a new one it should be here tomorow

all I had on my KA was the aux. cooling fan that came on when the car got too hot, but I never had a clutch fan. just pull your thermostate all together, promise it wont over heat then.... wont warm up either, but who needs that..really...

so you do have a fan then? removing the thermostat is not what you want to do. it's there so the engine maintains a NORMAl operating tempature. and if the thermostat was stuck then removing it would make the heater not work very well.

yeah i was kidding, don't take your thermostat out and leave it out, like he said its very important that they maintain operating temp. My car has a fan now but its not N/A anymore.

Probably not a good idea to kid with someone and tell them to take out their thermostat.

I tend to hold off on making suggestions unless I'm downright sure I know what I'm talking about. Not making any suggestion seems better than making a bad one.
