I'm not being paranoid it's just that I want it to remain as stock as possible to keep me from turning this thing into a project car.

Also, It's mostly a moot point now, anyhow. I discovered I had paid off more than I thought on my card so I can just buy a reman outright combined with the cash I am now making.

Had an EJ22 stock.

And yes, I'm sticking SOHC. Just too freakin' easy to work on.

Also, what year is the single port cutoff for these motors? 99?

i thought the single ports were pre-95 motors?

i'd say throw a dual port post-2000 EJ25 in it.. torque the heads and run subaru coolant. you should have no internal head gasket leak issues.

Unless there is some manner of witchcraft in my car it has single ports and it's a 97. I thought the dual ports came on the Phase II motors that started coming in the ~99-00 cars.

I've found a buttload of motors online now, turns out searching EJ22 will net you about 5 results but 2.2 subaru motor will get you several hundred. Who knew?

you're probably right on the single port/dual port thing..

if you get a used motor.. do the headgaskets and timing belt/waterpump crap while it's out before you toss it in. just in case ya know? :)

Yup, no doubt. Worth the hundred bucks or so in parts.

This time I won't skimp and get a gates timing belt, either.

I have finally sourced a motor and will have this bitch running before year's end. Now to just get it towed to the shop so the carnage can begin.

Fo sho. I'm probably going to do all the work at the shop over a weekend or two because I need to replace the input shaft seal on the transmission while the motor is out and I sure as hell don't want to tackle that in my driveway. It sucks that replacing a $4 part takes 5 hours, but it needs to be done and if I don't do it now I probably never will

Swap is complete, won't start, though. Turns over fine, but it won't kick off. Getting spark, fuel and air and according to the OBD scanner everything is hooked up and sensing properly.

Time to get into the wiring and double check the timing, i guess...
