I want to play with the big kids now too!

Post by Yoshi »

So I'm kinda trying to do a thing... It's my FOERST time at doing a thing like this but I'm pretty much diving in head FOERST. It's something I have wanted to do for a while, but funds have held me back. With opportunity comes a new learning experience.

The Motor:

My little valve man protecting my car from big scary motor.

The motor hits on the steering rack bracket and the oil filter hits the sway bar. If I notch the fire wall and scoot the motor back about 2 inches I should be able to clear everything with the stock oil pan. Otherwise I will have to make a pan for it and figure out a way to relocate the oil filter. I may do both depending on how things go. Does anyone know if there are firewall modification rules in FD?

The intake is huge since it's a truck motor and I am tossing around ideas on what to do for an intake.

The transmission is going to be ordered end of this week maybe.... depending how paychecks play out. It's going to be a 350Z trans. Once that is here, I get to start mocking up the adapter plate. Then it's off to the machine shop to talk about a flywheel.

Once the Cressida sells I'm getting my tig welder and then it's game on. I have big plans for everything and have decided either the car will run and be awesome or it won't. Either way it's going to be a huge learning experience for me and I'm really looking forward to it. :headbang:

I'm dumb. what is it? a vortech iron LSX engine? and yes FD has pretty specific rules regarding firewall modifications. If you dont have it someone here can email one to you.

EDIT: ok, answer got posted as I posted. Silly me.

if I remember right, all you're allowed to do to the firewall is make the trans tunnel bigger now.

nope, they're actually saying that it can only be.....18-inches wide x 18-inches tall if I remember right...or it was 10-inches wide....something like that...dont quote me on it. And that the rear of the engine can't sit past the firewall into the trans tunnel. I used to have the rulebook downloaded somewhere before my old laptop died.

I think you can find a copy of it on ASD's website with the Mustang parts they sell

the best thing to do when installing a v8 into your s13 is don't.

JK. GOOD LUCK DUDE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

i'd say f that oil filter and make something to remote mount it.
also start thinking about how you can rework the oilpan. you're going to want to run an accusump anyway so you might as well modify it before you worry about having to modify the firewall. start reading chris forsbag's blog. it might give you some ideas.

Yeah I have been reading his blog a lot lately. And the thing about the oil filter is that it is built into the oil pan. There is a guy in michigan that started putting one in his s14 and he used an after market front sump pan that he lengthened and mad an adapter plate to mount it to the block and ran lines through for the oil filter relocation.

I was looking into dry sump and so far only found one place that makes a pan for the vk and its a cnced billet piece.

Custom front sump pan or a dry sump are the only ways it is going in there and meeting any rulebooks. Otherwise custom subframe/front suspension with a front steer rack would also do the job ;)

i'm guessing you're back in cookeville. i'd start bugging some of the MIT professors into letting you turn this into a class project and go dry sump. my brother made some car parts for a class project.

It's not that I'm worried about competing or doing well, but if the opportunity to do an event for pro am or what ever I would like to have a car that would be legal.
