Get ready for high speed, smoke filled, sideways action as the USDrift Shootout tears up VIR's Patriot Course during the GT LIVEweekend. The USDrift Shootout is open to both professional and experienced amateur drivers. The event will put qualified drivers in a Sunday head-to-head tandem competition round where the top drivers will battle for a chance at $2,500 in total prize money.

Participant Requirements:
The USDrift Shootout is not a parking lot event, but high speed drifting on a genuine 1.1 mile road course. Because of the technical nature of this course, the USDrift Shootout is open only to EXPERIENCED drivers (previous drifting or road racing experience required). Experienced amateur drivers are welcomed to participate in the single-car practice sessions of the USDrift Shootout. But new, inexperienced drivers are not permitted to participate in this event. However USDrift is holding a Coliseum Clash Practice Event for beginner and intermediate level drivers the previous weekend on Sunday, October 1st, 2006 at Greensboro Coliseum. You may be able to obtain the necessary experience to qualify for the USDrift Shootout at this event (determined at the discretion of USDrift officials). For more information on the Coliseum Clash Practice Event, please visit the USDrift web site.

ALL participants must have a proper fitting helmet that meets Snell 1990 (SA1990; M1990) or newer (or equivalent) standards for cars or motorcycles. Drivers who wish to participate in the competition MUST have a vehicle equipped with a 4-point cage and have an approved driving suit (per normal NASA requirements).

Pre-register and save $25.00!
The maximum number of participant openings is 50. Total cumulative track time is over 9 hours (including the competition session) and almost 8 hours of open track/practice time. Until September 28th, you can register your VEHICLE (participant passes are extra) for $125.00. Day-of registration will be $150.00. All registered participants will be permitted to run all practice sessions and qualified drivers will advance to the Top 16 round of Sunday's competition.

Format:
Practice sessions will take place on the entire 11 turn, 1.1 mile Patriot course. Qualifying and competition rounds will take place in turns 10, 9, and 8, running clockwise (in front of the Patriot timing and scoring tower). The competition format will be a standard Top 16 single elimination round followed by a Super8 tandem elimination round which will progress down the ladder until a winner is declared.

Qualifying and competition rounds will be judged by a 3-member panel for this event. Judged criteria includes; entry speed into the turns, overall speed carried throughout the judged portion of the run, drift angle (the bigger, the better – without sacrificing speed), clipping points (apex of the turns), use of the entire track (performed in a controlled manner).

On tandem runs, the aforementioned factors will still be used, with the addition of the leading and following cars maintaining their respective lead or pursuit over the other driver. Passes are not required for a winning run, however, if the lead driver has gone off line and the following driver executes the pass in a safe manner or to prevent a crash, that is acceptable. The “One More Time” clause will only be used once per match-up. Extra points can be awarded to drivers at the discretion of the individual judges and may include, but are not limited to, close proximity to barriers, amount of tire smoke, tire smoke that causes a change in the following driver’s line, and if minor contact is made with an object but the drift is still maintained (i.e. bumper gently tagging a barrier).
