rattling ka

Post by zeus »

so if anyone remembers my thread on seda many moons ago, i bought a white 92 coupe off a guy for 200 bux. didnt run. got it towed to the house yesterday.....finally.

anyway, checked some stuff under the hood. dead battery for one and plug wires 1 and 3 not connected. couple of sensors not attached. cool. plugged stuff up and viola.....it starts but dammit if someone didnt put marbles in the engine. i turn it off and pull the valve cover, the top guide is in two pieces. cool. removed it and replaced the cover.

start number 2, still rattling though not as bad. only at idle, apply throttle and it sounds strong. back at idle it also shakes a little and wants to die.

i think its the timing but havent had time to adjust it yet.

thoughts?

timing, bad gas in the tank, MAF going on the fritz, stuff like that. does it have any hesitation and stutter when you have it running at idle and give it some gas?

what could have happen is when the guide broke it could have gone throe the chain and stretched it. you need to run some sea foam in the iav. and clean the throttle body check plugs and fuel filter. and if the chain are not stretched need to check timming. if you take the cam cover off look down at the tens guide for the top chain is all the plastic still on it if so is it pressing against the chain with out the car running?
