Hahaha... it is true, it is true! I wasn't going to post anything until I could get the video from last night up...
but the cat's outta the bag!

The open diff style caught the FOERST plane out of town yesterday morning! A big big BIIIIIG THANKS goes out to Batlground for closing a chapter in a five month dramatic saga that has been this differential project.

Dan and I (big emphasis on Dan) put that badboy in the e46 yesterday morning. The break-in went fine... I wasn't messed with by Smyrna po-po... I didn't get carsick - it was cool! I could have gone another 30 minutes if I had to, lol.

I snapped her loose once on the way to work yesterday morning. I had read that people who jump from open to lsd spin the FOERST time out - since the difference is that dramatic. I didn't spin - instead rawked two very controlled circles in an torn-down gas station parking lot! As soon as it broke loose I knew it felt how it was supposed to feel... that thing is amazing! I struggled through a day of work... really only thinking about giving her the full test when I got out.

I went out last night with Hooman... the car is no joke now! Hooman shot some video - and when I studied it... I was suprised at the angle I could get and still hold it under control! The 3.46 ratio is really nice as well. I immediately noticed in improvement in accelleration. That extra bit of torque allows me to get some extra edge in my slides. Higher speeds right off the bat. I don't even have to think... the car drives itself. It induces slides with minimal effort. I don't have to throw the weight as hard... so it dowsn't feel like I'm beating on the her as badly.

The e46 is a different car now. It's crazy. It'll definitely take some getting used to. It's pretty loud on the chatter tip. People will think the car is broken - but whatever - it slides like a bat outta hell & I'm loving it!

Ol grrrl started her transformation yesterday. Next step - roll cage.
This is going to be a rad year for real!

F'in sweet. Should make you alot smoother now. No more big weight transfers to make it step out. What ratio did you come from 3.08 or something? Is your speedo off, if it is you might wanna contact the BMW dealer to see if it can be calibrated to the new gear. It sucks having to drive the car during break in period, figure 8s aren't bad but doing the mileage sucks ass. Make sure you follow those directions or might cause the plates to wear uneven. If it still ratchets try adding 1/4 bottle of gm lsd additive after your complete breakin period. Who do you plan to have a cage installed by?

My open diff was a 3.15 - it's not a huge jump to the 3.46, but definitely a noticable upgrade.

I'm not sure if the speedo is off. I'll have to have someone pace me and see. The RPM's are about 600-800 higher than they were before. It'll take some getting used to on the highway. It feels like fourth gear with the 3.15 - but it's in fifth. A six-speed would be rad.

As far as the break-in... the Kaaz instructions that came with the unit said that the 30 minute figure 8 session - followed by a drain/refill of the gear oil would complete the break-in. It didn't say anything about mileage... what's the scoop on that?

I'm still not sure about the cage. I'm waiting on Slipstream/Formula D to approve the rulebook before I take care of it. They aren't sure if they're going to require a 6 or 8 point cage (8pt=excessive imo, lol). I know Tracy said they used a certified cage builder for the Supra - Darkducati said he also had a connection from working at Ferrari... but either way - I'm still waiting on the approval before I dig in.

Hahaha... hey, no worries! It's allll good, yo. I'm so stoked to have that thang in the car, my hair could fall out temporarily and I wouldn't care.

I'm gonna get some of that video posted up later on today. It's not spectacular... but pretty decent for the FOERST night out.

Hey Andy glad you finally have that project out of the way. Sounds like a sweet set up. Now you can take off your Open Diff Stylee vinyl.
