Ford V8 Supercars?

Post by charlie »

I know this isn't very drift oriented but today at lunch there was a race on SpeedVision of Australian V8 Supercars. Can someone tell me a little about these things? What model are they driving? It definitely doesn't look like anything domestic. The front end looks like the last model mustang but with RSX headlights. The body is shaped like a Taurus but the taillights look almost identical to the latest Civic sedan. WTF? Anyway the race was awesome and I just wanted to know a little more about this series. Thanks!

it's the ford Falcon, a car that hasn't been sold in the states since the 70's but is still being redesigned/sold in Aussie land. it's kinda like the Holden Monaro over there, now known as the new GTO in the US. the monaro/commodore has been sold in australia for years.

btw, they still basically make the el camino over in australia, now known as the "ute" it's basically a GTO/Monaro with a truck bed

did you catch the four car pile up? one of the blue cars took a corner to hard, not to mention he and a yellow/white car were seriously rubbing prior, and began to slide sideways. about half way thru the corner he completely lost it and ended up getting tboned by the yellow/white car he was rubbing before the corner and another blue car. this caused one of the black cars to spin out and slam the wall. i caught like four replays of it around that same time. either way it was pretty insane.
for most of the race it seemed all the cars were frighteningly close. looked like inches, under 8" the whole way around the track between a group of like 20.

Holdens are utter phatness!!!

They're basically one of the few types of cars in the area with V8s.

It's very difficult to get even Bimmers and Mercs in 8 cylinders, and even then they are usually very small 8 cylinders, 3 liters or less. For example, our BMW 5-series e60 here is either a 520i or a 530i, the 520i uses a 2000cc inline six, and the 530i comes with a 3000cc V8 not the 3000cc inline six as comes in the e346 330...

Someone should do a Menaro front end swap on a Pontiac GTO. It could be a GTO.5!

That would be hot!
