FOERST off...I got into my FOERST casualty with the coilovers today! I got hit with dark ducati syndrome:( I hit a nice chunk of tire tread on 400S this morning on my way to work and SCRRRRAPE! My bottom passenger side front bumper is nice and chunky:( Oh well it will go with the shopping cart scrape. RALLY DAMAGE!

charlie-- i'd sell my suspension to you, but it sort of sucks [now that i have the flex in i realize how much it sucks], and what if i ever needed to go back to it...say if one of my coilovers ran into problems or something? I dunno...I gotta think about it;) Maybe if you'd let me borrow them back if they ever broke I could do it!:P

Short of catching mad air all the time, you shouldn't be able to break the Teins... The steel body they have are much stronger than the all aluminum body coilovers by say JIC-Tragic, etc... :)

JICs are junk for the most part. They're the Japanese equivalent of altezzas. Just how in Japan altezza lights are a big deal while most of us wouldn't even run over one with our car, JIC tragic coilovers are the same. With the exception of their super high end one 2200+ they don't last. Just my .02

Yes... she is there as we speak.

She's trying to get corner-weighting done also... but we'll have to see if time permits.

Well I spent 5 HOURS at subaru and all I got was a stupid appointment to go back on wednesday. An hour was spent with the service manager blabbing on about stuff [not related to my car], and then another hour was spent fixing and adjusting the settings on my tein's [ergh] and raising it another half inch, then we corner balanced, and then we did a "performance allignment".

And then...

The subaru master tech who used to work for nissan in japan as an engineer came out and told me he was unhappy with the settings. He said he thinks it's still too low and is afraid I might rip my fenders off if I go into a turn at the radius at which the wheel locks. [boo no drifting til it's fixed!]. He wants me to come back on Wednesday for the day and we'll go through everything again. ughhhhhhh teh sux0r.

At least Darrel [the salesmen who sold me the STi] is going to take me out to lunch since I sent him two customers in the past week. If I let him know customers are coming next time, they can write it up in the deal that I get commission.

I still don't want to go back:( but I want my baby ridin' right.

I'm worried that I'll just screw a body kit up more;) Maybe that prodrive carbon fiber lip though....that's a nice little addition!

"The particular person went so far as to tell me that Tein's were one of the crappiest products on the market and I would regret the JIC's!

I can't wait to hear what he says today when I bring the car in for an allignment."

Easy Killa. It sounds like you're talking about me, and I gave props to the Teins. I always state that I think they are good products and that I have been in great street and race cars with the Teins. We had some killer Celicas on the Teins...

When we were deciding what suspensions to carry here, we looked at a bunch. The reason we went with the JIC's was that we felt like they were the best product FOR THE MONEY. The JIC's in the same price point as your Teins are inverted monotubes with stamped steel hub mounts, in deference to traditional tubes with welded mounts. I am sorry if I was over-pushy about them. I don't mean to be, like I said, we just have the most confidence that the JIC's are good products. I have done a number of them, and I know (how) they work. Again, sorry about the over-pushy.

Anyway, not sure what aluminum your talking about on the JIC's??? The body of the JIC's is all steel. Some of the internals are Al...

I haven't heard about anybody "failing" a set of JIC's. They have had less than a 3 day turnaround when we have needed some the valving changed...

As for them being junk, how about the STi with ONLY JIC's and brake pads (no power mods, OE tires) that went 140.0# at Road Atlanta. They can't be that bad.

As for the 5 hours thing nobody, the appointment was only for an alignment. If I had known that we were going to be adjusting ride height and setting corner weights I would have made it earlier, and we wouldn't have chatted for an hour before deciding what we were going to do.

We ran out of time trying to get the wheel perfectly straight. For those that have aligned STi's, they know that for whatever reason they are little finicky trying to make sure that the wheel is perfectly straight.

You and I agreed on the ride height. The service director noticed that it rubbed at full lock, I don't understand the animosity.

I didn't experience the rubbing at full lock, if you haven't, or it doesn't bother you, we won't have to mess with the ride-height/corner weights again, just the alignment.

As for the alignment, I've been looking over some of our suspension set-up notes, and I think we should de-camber the back some, or at least take the front up to equal.

I just want to go on record as saying I'm not against any parts that we don't sell here. I certainly don't have anything against the Teins. We've just had good results from the JIC's. With your Teins, we may need the camber bolts to de-camber the rear enough to drift.

Sorry about all the trouble,
Scott

There is no animosity or hard feelings-- and actually I am quite greatful for all of the help in fixing the install problem. I did however, feel that the JIC was sort of being pushed on me. I'm not the only person to have experiences this either. I know of two other people from another board who have commented on feeling the same after speaking with people at SOG.

Ah, it's so hard to convey emotion within the confines of text, and i hope that it didn't come off as wrong or full of animosity. Just junkin' around with text.

anyhow, no harm done hopefully-- and i hope you understsand how appreciative i was for friday. I wasn't frustrated about being there for five hours or about having to go back-- i want everything to be perfect. In saying that I was there for five hours and all i got was a lousy second appointment, is a pun on the slogan of travel t shirts you sometimes see. Hard to explain I guess.

C'est la vi. I will be more careful with word choice, in hopes not to offend!

Cool. I know I need to tone down my enthusiasm... Have you been pushing the car at all? If so, what do you think? If not, why not! ;) We need to discuss your alignment specs more in depth.

If you want to be able to hang the tail with the front in it's "street setting" (front top-plates at 0 mark), we should set the front to 2.0 degrees negative, and decamber the back to 1.2-1.5 negative (this will require camber bolts unfortunately). If you are cool with the "safer" set-up of minimal rotation on the street, when you slap those front top plates all the way in (3.5+ degrees camber and 0.8 degrees toe-out) it should have enough front grip to hang the tail. Then again, we haven't played with your tire pressure yet.

Peace,
Scott

Enthusiasm is definitely great when dealing with a product, but I guess it has come off as a bit aggressive. I've found that with a lot of products regaurding this car. Everyone has a different opinion, and a lot of people are more than happy to tell you that what you want to do is wrong/stupid/etc. Not saying you fall into this category, because that's incorrect. It's just that since this is my FOERST 4W car, I've been seeking out a lof of advice on what to do with modifications, and most of the time I get varied responses-- some of them helpful, others not so much, and then some rather aggressive and irritating [ie: coilovers aren't adjustable for every situation-- that one just cracks me up]. I've gotten a bitter taste to those with strong opinions because of this, and tend to not be able to separate a lot of my feelings towards various people. Especially in text! I've never been one to keep my mouth shut:P And I should probably learn to.

Actually I wanted to do the camber bolts on Friday, but funds prohibited the extra cost-- but now that we are moving things to wednesday, and I've since gotten paid-- I definitely want to do the bolts. That's why I asked if it was something that could be done later.

I did take the care up to the mountains on Saturday, but our mountain run was limited since Cody's SR20 swap 240 ran into some problems and had to be towed down to ATL. I did manage to climb up and down Neil's gap once, and it felt GREAT! Such an improvement over stock-- but definitely is going to take some getting used to. Now if only Godspeed would get my damn Bride seat bracket to me, I would be loving my set up a lot more because I wouldn't be thrown around the car so much.

Nope, it's Christian Bollrath. 1:47 TOTALLY stock. We did JIC's with our special set-up and alignment, and brake pads ZERO power mods, OE tires, 1:40.0# FLAT. With a downpipe and Pirelli Corsas he was in the 1:3#'s
