Vinyl on the cheap

Post by Silonius »

As I know nothing about vinyl or where it is done:

Anyone know where to get it cheap? Is that possible? Is it possible to do it yourself, make it or apply it?

Currently am experimenting with some inkjet printable static cling sheets and printable magnetic sheets for autocross numbers and fictional sponsor designs.

I use Signs By Tomorrow - http://www.signsbytomorrow.com ... Vinyl usually runs about $3.50-5/sq ft. The chrome and specialty vinyl is over three times that cost. A windsheild banner is usually about $20-25. All the roll-calls I've done have been in chrome - so I'm not sure how much regular vinyl would cost.

Vinyl shops can also do magnetics for you... I've never done any, so I'm not sure what the price would run.

If you're doing a lot of vinyl work - it would be best to get a plotter ($600-$1000), and cut it on your own... you'll save $$$ in the long run. If you're not doing a whole lot - a sign show is the way to go.

Vinyl is inexpensive, and removable (best removed with a heat gun). It rocks!

Hope that helps!

Wow thanks helpful dMs!

Bad news though, I'm not gonna make it to the rallyX.

Cost, distance and my parents who are missionaries in El Salvador are flying into the country that Wed. so I'm gonna hang out with them considering I only see them every 6 months or so.

There will be others.
