Yeah...it sure is a shame that there was no one else who really stepped up on the East Coast and provided a place for people to COMPETE on a level that was fairly easily obtainable as compared to D1 or FD.

It's funny...there are a couple of posts full of bashing from people who actually WON MONEY at a Nopi event.

Don't get me wrong...Nopi was a joke, mostly because of the inconsistent judging...but for some people, it was the only way to go and compete on a national scale. One thing you got last year from Nopi was coverage.

That said...fuck Mike Meyers.

you play to the wrong crowd forever and dont adapt to changes in the tides and you are going to get burned...I cant believe they lasted this long...

Hate it for all you guys who set up your cars for their series but then again...you guys are the shit...something super-rad will come around and then again...you are setup for tandems and other safe-esque tom foolery@

..with it all being said.. since many of you are drifters..do you think that there is a need for a "intermediate" series between the grassroots and FD?

a series that is understandably going to be smaller than FD.. but larger than the grassroots..

a series where the participants have the enthusiasim of the grassroots events but the commitment of of FD and aspirations to move into that level given the opportunity?

i'm just brain storming here.. and what better person to brainstorm and then objectively than a person that know about drifting but does not drive? (yes i kno, yancey!)

seriously though i think that there are enough serious guys on this side of the mississippi to have a good semi-pro series. getting good venues would be the FOERST challenge but it shouldn't be too hard. promoting the events the right way would be the second challenge but the talent on this forum alone could handle that. throw in a good rule book and some trust worthy judges and you'll have a good series. formula d only does 7 events we could do 6. florida and atlanta in the spring, stl ohio jersey and virginia in the summer/fall. top 5 goes the gt live for pro am. done

The thing I don't understand is all the griping about competition. I'm sorry, but there will NEVER be any drift competition where there is not some (perceived) controversy with the results. Never. It's a SUBJECTIVE sport. Your are graded on style...you're not crossing a finish line with a checkered flag. That's kinda the name of the game.

I think there is going to be a big hole where Nopi was that NEEDS to be filled. There are a ton of people (here included) that aren't on the same level as FD or D1...maybe not in talent, but budget and equipment and would like to be in some form of (semi) professional competitive series.

Anyway...tired of the bitching about Nopi. We all know it wasn't perfect and that the nature of Nopi would never LET it be perfect...but NONE of the series are perfect. At least Nopi made a place for guys here to step up a bit and compete...and, for some of you, collect a paycheck for your performance. Now there is a void...if you don't want it filled, or think that practice days are good enough, fine. But don't bash the people who still really want to compete.

Competition took the fun out of it for me... and I always said when it wasn't fun anymore I would stop. Practice events feel like what drifting should be to me... fun, friends, and drifting. No politics, no pressure, no bs. Just fun. I really did have fun competing for a long time. But not so much anymore... for multiple reasons.

So yes, I'm not too fond of competition... but I have nothing bad to say about anyone who wants to compete.
