Guys, I know all the dM's had a great time and were safe, but I'm going to have to play devil's advocate here.
I watched a majority of the broadcast live, and I feel Marcos needs to make some changes soon or else he's going to get burned....bad.
A couple of things I recall.
* Struka spins out and car dies. SIX more cars are sent before Andy actually stops on the track to hold the start. Sonja and I were screaming at my laptop "STOP SENDING CARS!!!!" Thanks Andy, you know what's up
* Multiple car tandems & tandems without cages. A few drivers that were allowed to tandem, IMHO shouldn't have been out there. When it got late, or should I say early in the morning, there were more than a few close calls. Now don't get me wrong, I would have been out there right in the mix with you guys, but only the people I trusted

Now the tandem without cage is kinda iffy. I know no one was going fast, and people get into accidents on the street harder than a tandem accident, BUT if something were to happen and an insurance company asked what happened, everyone would be fucked.
This event may have went well, but I really feel that if they keep being run like this, something bad is going to happen.
With all this being said, I am actively working on a DG Private Day for dM's only.

Guy at the starting line later in the night was doing some very questionable stuff like sticking random people together to tandem and making people run tandem. I guess one guys partner left and dude kept trying to stick him in our group. Starting guy kept saying "I can't run him alone this is tandem blah blah blah". One dude got behind me and struka once and I had to take a retarded line because he was right on me and I didn't know what he was gonna do because I have never seen him drift...
I just wanted to do it with people I know and trust since I had no cage and new paint(some of those other people did not need to be doing tandem).
More organization needs to happen for sure.

yea, it was messed up when they were sending more cars when my car wouldnt start. i kept flashing my headlights so someone would get attention. howard was there and telling them to stop sending cars until andy actually stopped.
i agree with shawn, me and him were gonna tandem and we got stuck with the gold s14 even though we didnt want to run with him. there are some people i wont run with but thats with everyone. if i spin i dont want them to hit me or me hit them esp if they dont have a cage.
other than that, it was a good event minus the 75 traffic. i think thats the only thing that will keep me from coming there, the shitty traffic.

Ive noticed that the guys (excluding Marcos and Howard) working the event are guys that are new to it and dont seem to have a full grasp of what is expected. They are not drivers themselves so they seem to make some questionable judgement calls. Theres also a lot of new drivers doing the same. Things went a lot smoother after Marcos arrived but even then there was room for improvement. The event was a lot of fun, had a great vibe but I agree that safety can not be compromised for any reason. I really like the idea of the light tree but its implementation needs some revising. I personally want the starter close enough that I can ask any questions or clarify things with. Also even with the alarm sounding an airhorn should be used to announce run groups pre-grid time. The PA system is weak if you are not in front of it. Again I want to say it was a great event but anything can be made better.

^^ That's the tip of the iceberg

I won't even get into the guy waling around with a 9mm Glock on his belt (in plain view). THEN..... Chad and I actually "red flagged" the track due to safety issues late in the night. Track workers were walking along the side of the track, picking up cones, while cars were tandeming beside them which is what Byron is referring too.
All of the above was brought to Marcos' attention.

the event was a lot of fun but there are definitely improvements to be made. the night event had a lot of logistical nightmares and unfortunately the HNIC wasn't there until 11pm and it caused a lot of problems.

i'm all for open carrying, but technically the event was a public gathering, so that's off limits, even if you have a GA carry permit. didn't happen to see that guy though, but i'd believe it.
and i also agree on pretty much everything said about safety stuff. i was also one of the cars that came to a quick halt as soon as i started and saw struka stalled out, and things should be done to keep cars from being sent in scenarios like that. i'd also like more choice in tandem partners as well if possible, as i ended up with a few people i had never seen drive before running with me which makes me feel a bit strange. getting kids out there and giving them tandem experience is a great way to help you learn the skills for it quickly, but perhaps there should be a bit of a phasing in process at FOERST, similar to the way DG did it in the past (only allowing tandem noobs to run lead with instructors following them at FOERST, or something like that). i witnessed a ton of spins and near accidents from some of the guys out there running, and was also worried it was only a matter of time before a wreck happened.
again, with this said, it was still incredibly fun, possibly one of the more entertaining events i've driven in, period. marcos getting there did take care of a number of the issues, and with a few more precautions for next time, i'm sure things will get a bit more smoothed out.
