i'm still not sure what you are saying. it seems like you're trying to say that because someone drives at a D1 underground event that means they will be prepared for professional drifting. then you make the assumption that if someone wants to participate in professional drifting they will choose formula D.

this is faulty logic for many reasons.

also irony is generally defined as "the use of words to convey a meaning that is the opposite of its literal meaning"

so if i said, "that mischif guy is a real brain surgeon", that would be ironic.

I'm not saying that because someone drives one D1UG event they will instantly become a super-skilled driver, what I'm saying is that if this press release is to be believed, if someone wanted to become a professional drifter right now they would start driving in the D1UG to hone their skills and become a better driver, until a time where they step into a professional circuit. At that time I do believe they would choose Formula D over D1GP because:

a) D1GP doesn't exist in America yet
and
b) Formula D has more fans and money being thrown at it right now, along with more visibility

Also, your "brain surgeon" quip is more sarcasm than irony, but apparently sarcasm is a form of irony. If you wanted to be truly ironic you'd say something about me being as bright as a black hole, or as sharp as a rock.

Wrong.

You gave examples of sarcastic similies, not irony.

Sorry, I'll re-write my statement for you.

You used both a sarcastic simile and a representative example, respectively,

you sure showed him with all that misspelling.

and to your comment about the food chain.....
I think must people that have been into drifting for a really long time all know that FD is a terrible organization and would rather stick with D1 until they realize it is the same bullshit.

so to me it would go like this:
Street - Grassroots - ProAM - FD - Grassroots - D1UG - D1GP - Grassroots - Street

In the long run it will not be what everyone expects it to be and it will turn into just another FD. At this point you will just say fuck drifting and go back to where it all began.
