Patrick approves!

^see that photo! Don't get jealous of my talent. I used some random shutter speed, med light, and 3 whole megapixels. Take notes.
Pff, that's nothing.

Thanks for the snaps man! I'm glad to see the "inside the corner" shots, rather than what I scrounge from the sidelines.

Sorry to break it to you but brick walls aren't terribly full of actshuns. Unless there's a monster truck barreling through it, but we don't get many of those rumbling through mayretta.

Nice shots of Brandon and Sammy, actually nice shots all around. I agree a lil low on the action meter but this makes up for it

Poor photographer doesn't mean poor camera...LMAO. I'll get better. I just shot what I wanted. I like it when the action is just frozen. But next event I'll have to try a lower shutter speed and get some motion blur.

Any suggestions?
I like 1/160th

Not sure what techniques the other guys use, but I pull my elbows into my torso and pivot at the hips when panning. When shooting a low shutter speed, this technique will help stabilize the camera and prevent undesired blurring.

charming picture of rhoad though.
You want I shoulda shot a slower shutter speed and got some motion blur?
You start at 1/60-1/120 depending on the speeds of the cars, and their wheel speeds, and work from there. That preserves the slight blur in the wheels to convey the action of movement. You shot a majority of these shots around 1/400. EXIF never lies. Secondly, White Balance = auto, come on! You're outside with moving cars, you don't shoot auto WB if you want decent color off the bat. If you want to batch process hundreds of pictures later, be my guest. Why make it harder than it needs to be? Thirdly, why would you use spot metering if you aren't framing the cars tight enough that the background has a reserved space in the frame (hence why it's blown out on occasion) & F/stops that aren't shallow (no bokeh)? Center weighted. Check it.
