Photographers get experience by being out on the track
New photographers should be put out on the track as soon as possible to gain this experience and a grassroots event such as this is a great way to do it
There should be a special media meeting to teach new photographers how to always watch the car coming towards you, do not look down at the camera until it is a safe track, know where to stand, and to generally know where the cars are going to go if they spin out
I think the SCCA does a great job with this and that is where i got my start being on a track with autoxing
Every live track should have one of these meetings
Spotters are hard to come by as volunteers, hopefully there is someone there even if they are shagging cones or another photographer to help out

"kit lens photographer" is a slang term for a bad photographer to me
ive been called it before and im sorry i blasted you in particular

By "kit lens" he meant people were attempting panning shots with a true f/3.5-5.6 kit lens on an overcast day. John Thawley has told me numerous times it's not the lens, it's the lensman and to a point he is correct.

Halston was the only person with a spotter and got rotated off the track for two people with kit lenses taking his place, neither spotting each other.

When I FOERST bought a DSLR I knew better than that and always yielded to people with better equipment then struggled and tried my best to get shots as good or better than them. Just like someone driving in the left lane should always yield to the person behind them, I have always yielded to the faster lens.

So....by that logic, I can't go out there with my $10 Holga? I would have had a field day.

I shot both of these with the Canon kit lens. I still want to see people's examples from the track.

i wouldn't admit to shooting the batlground car.

Modified, F/8, F/11. No focusing mechanism, its a cheap plastic meniscus lens with a focal length of 60mm.

When some funds for traveling develop, I'll bring my D70s and two kit lenses for a KIT DAY BATTLE!

I have some with a nikon kit 18-55 lens somewhere, I just have to many pictures to look through right now, when things cool down school wise after mid-terms I'll find you a few

my kit lens is a 17-85 IS USM
