well, minor update. Last Friday I got a bit hasty, thinking that getting the ignition lock to move was gonna be easy....so I had rented a Uhaul pickup and Trailer. Well.....the lock pretty much kicked my ass. Now I know why locksmiths get paid what they do. So the trailer went unused. Good news is, a friend from the Cleveland area is flying in to hang out for a week, and he's a locksmith. So this thing will get cracked later this week, probably on Saturday. And I'm going to pick up my transmission from my Uncle on Sunday, and probably start rebuilding it the FOERST or second week of next month.

ETA to this thing sitting in my apartment's parking lot is looking like next month now. And my more realistic goal of having it actually running is now looking like June or July.

But 2011 will be the year I start drifting, mark my words.

nothing much to report except.....I got it home. Finally.









It took an hour and a half using a comealong to get the thing up on the trailer. I think my next vehicle will be able to move under it's own power.



Things I learned: I need a truck. I need a truck with a winch. I need a 4x4 Death Machine capable of surviving the Apocalypse....with a winch.

Found an engine nearby for 100 bucks that supposedly runs. Gonna check it out this week.

well, the engine comes with an automatic...so I'm debating on wether to just go ahead and run the Auto until I rebuild my 4-speed.....and the other thing up for debate is to see if the N/A diff will last until I can source a T2 or a 8.8...

it's not that it bothers me, it's just one more thing on the to-do list....both handles.

Don't bother putting that automatic in the car. Waste of time! Matter of fact save up $300 bucks (a mere 200 more than the motor) and I'll tell you where the 86 GXL is in Hall County.

Reasons why you should do this:
-5 lug / big brakes
-most (if not all) gxl's had LSD. All the ones i've owned have had it
-5 spd car (Car was parked w/ a bad clutch, so a brand new one is sitting in the hatch)
-Has a motor

I can have somebody get the street name for you or I can personally direct you to the car. I can even call the owner and make sure $300 bucks is cool, I will even try and work him down a little bit for you. I'm thinking back and can't remember if he though the trans was bad too, but it looks like you have to buy one anyway if you spend $100 on that motor

To be quite honest you should tow this GXL home and sell that empty base model shell. It's even red just like the one you have. PM me if you need my number!

I really appreciate the offer, but the car i've got now is originally a 5-speed. The only two things really wrong with the chassis itself are just that it needs 5-lug hubs and the N/A diff. I'd spend too much money on fuel and such hauling that GXL back from GA.
