Tracey, you are technically correct. In a court of law the correct term would be libel. I used the term slander because the definition of libel was written long before there were internet forums. Forums are really a way for people to talk without being next to one another or via phone. I think the original definition of libel is directed towards media print where you can write something that is distributed which is why I used the term slander. You are techinically correct and IF he is lying, he would probably be guilty of both.
Tracey and Slick, the post of the definition of slander was in no way meant to flame Slick. I have never done any business with Top Hat and never will. I don't have a problem with them, I just work on my own cars and I don't own 240s. It was meant to point out that without any proof he potentially getting himself into a bad situation. I do feel that everyone should share their experiences with the members of this board. However, when the owner of that business comes on here and states reasons why he feels the statements are false, I feel that the burden of proof is on the accuser. Innocent until proven guilty. I would think you would feel the same Tracey as I am sure you have had many situations similar to this, as all business owners have, especially us in the car business. I do find it wierd that another business owner is on here and not the cars owner. Seems like his only motivation would be to discredit Top Hat, but I am not in his head so I can't say that for fact.
With that, I am going to go back to drinking my bleach.
