Turner wasn't going to allow Drifting anymore but I've had a long standing relationship with the Turner folks and their event coordinator agreed to allow us to give it a shot as long as we addressed the noise issue and regulated the safety and traffic flow at the venue (which is why I had to meet with the Fire Marshall).
The issues are definitely the noise. Thats why everyone is required to have a muffler. There can't be any noise above 104-109db. The reason that SCCA hasn't had any complaints is because they're using the Green lot. The barrier wall reflex the noise so that it's not carried over to the HOA. I can't guarantee that we won't get any complaints but if we do I have a couple more tricks up my sleeve. If the cars can only get so quiet then we have to find a way to make the venue itself more quiet. Or at least so that the noise doesn't carry very far.
I know some of the guys are against putting mufflers on their cars and I understand. But to have the event the cars have to regulated to a certain noise level. Otherwise the events won't continue.
Howard is right on the cost. This is one of the most expensive events we've ever put together and without help from the sponsors it's almost not worth the risk of doing. But the more sponsors that we can round up the more secure the event will be and we can keep it a low-cost event for the drivers at a fantastic venue while still improving on the setup and execution of organizing the events. (Meaning, We can buy more shit as it's needed when it's needed, instead of borrowing money from someone to get it now.)
That also brings up what Howard said about "Everyone pays. Even staff." That's correct. We'll be paying for spots as well. It may sound stupid but everyone has to contribute to make it possible. And all spectators will be paying to get in. No more buddy-buddy stuff. Not trying to sound like a dick but there will be someone assigned to walk around and specifically look for the correct wrist bands. If someone doesn't have it, they'll be escorted to the front to pay or leave. Money is tight, and I don't want to be scraping by to make the next event happen. As the events continue things will get a little more relaxed (except for the safety aspect) and it won't be so tight. Like I said, I'm not trying to sound like a douche. Everyone pays to drive or to spectate.
I hope everyone can make it out. Even if you decide not to run. I'm already stressed out about the event, even though it's mostly gonna be Howards game the day of. I know Chris and I will still be running around doing things because that's how we are. But all questions and safety concerns run through Howard the day of unless he's driving. If I need to get involved I will. blah.
Muffler thing concerns me. 104DB is pretty loud. I mean, a jet flying over is 120DB. And gunshots (COMMON FOR DOWNTOWN ) are 140DB.
I am very safety driver!!!!!!!!!
"if you see team rowdy in anyone's sig, just don't even read the post. From my experience anything they've said to me was assholish and most of what i read is the same."
