The Museum of American Speed.

Post by andysapp »

Had a half-day off in Lincoln... which is a city that I've oddly spent a lot of time in. We used to do tech rehearsals out there... so for a few years I would spend like... 12-ish days in a row there. It's a li'l city that I like a lot... and if I'd ne'er been there... I'd honestly skip right o'er it. But having spent so much time there... I knew of an INCREDIBLE museum there called The Museum of American Speed. I have photos somewhere I'd like to dig up from 2014 when I was there... I'm curious to see how much/if the place has changed much in that time.

Anyway... if you're ever in Lincoln... or e'en Omaha... it's DEFINITELY worth the trip. The collection is MASSIVE.

That is super cool. I love the coveralls.
When you shoot these with the "settings" do you edit the photos or are they pretty much done due to the settings?

The X100's have built-in film simulations... but mine is older, so I can't get the exact simulation/recipe I want in-camera. So I've tweaked one to get it as close as I can in-camera so that I can shoot closer to how I want. Then I have a Lightroom preset that I've been working on that I apply to the RAW files that come out of the camera. I may slightly tweak the exposure if I mis-shot or feel that it would look better... but for the most part I'm not really editing... just slapping my preset on it and running with it.

That makes sense. I did see that they have built in presets just like Ricoh GRiii I guess.

I still haven't use one of those Ricoh's... but they look awesome!! The newer Fuji cameras have more adjustability so you get get more/better film recipes for 'em. I'm gonna live with this workflow for now 'cause the prices on the newer ones are bananas... and the one I have is plenty capable.

I think Ricoh is just more "pocket" friendly. And agree on the prices.

It's been decades since I had a pocketable digital camera... but having absolutely LOVED the Olympus Stylus Epic in that regard for 35mm... so I very much see the appeal. I've halfway looked at the Fuji XQ2 for that reason... but e'en those are going between $5-600... which I just cannot justify spending right now.

The Ricoh GR3 is what I bought for my Japan trip and I absolutely love it. I was also really torn on it vs. one of the Fuji's (my dad even offered to loan me his older X100F which I thing is an incredible camera, but I also really wanted to prioritize size/weight for this trip). So far no regrets with it at all, everything I posted on Instagram during that trip was from it (aside from a few iPhone shots sprinkled in). The in-camera film recipes are really cool too, I've only found a way to bounce between 3 at a time easily but that's enough to start with.
