WTB: 3 knuckle Open Diff for s14
i recently found out that my VLSD is shot. And being the broke-ass college student and father that I am....there's no way I'm going to drop a grand on a after market. So my plan is to buy an open diff and have Mike of Top Hat Performance weld it for me. This way I can use my current VLSD for daily use and throw the Welded diff in for events.
So if any of you have a 3 knuckle, open diff for a S14....let me know. I want to buy it.

yea...there are some disadvantages to welded diffs like driving in the rain. But as long as I have the VLSD on the side....I won't mind.

Yeah... you have to drop part of the rear sub-frame on my car to get the diff out/in. Unbolting the half-shafts from the flanges is time consuming as well. I think it's a two-person job, because of the weight of the diffs... but you could prolly get it solos style if you're a strong lad.
Next go-round, I want to try and do most of the work, so I'm familiar with everything. You never know what'll happen at a drift event, lol.
It's probably much easier with a 240. Ze Germans do not make my car easy to work on.
I'll keep an eye out for an open diff for ya!

ya'll are probably right. I'm going to a good look at everything tonight to see what I'm in for.
To support your theory....Chad said that it took him 3 hours to change out his diff.

Yeah it's very easy to switch them, but still takes time/more than one person...
If you don't mind me asking, how much did Mike charge you? Have you had any problems yet? Welding a diff isn't as simple as just welding... you have to be good at what you're doing. I have a few spare R200s sitting around so lemme know plz.
Thanks man!

Ive been driving on the welded diff every since Lucky Slides and haven't had a single problem. The welds seems to be holding up really well. However, I am looking to buy another s14 diff top to put on my spare VLSD. This way I can switch the diffs out without having to switch the tops. And I think Mike charged me $50 to weld it.
