I don't think it's goofy! I actually used to have the same haircut about 5 years ago. My hair just doesn't do well short because it's naturally curly so I grew it back out.

I'm actually in the process of growing it out, but I couldn't deal with that shaggy look I was sporting so I had the back cut off. I'm just gonna let it grow from here and hopefully it won't look too silly.
This is what it looked like when we were in Australia:
