The rulebook they sent me said engines are still open. Maybe I have an older version, and they've revised it since then.

good to know my suby would be legal, although i havent the skills to take it anywhere near that. maybe one day in the far distant future where everyone is dead due to radiation and somehow i lived by hiding inside a goverment cheese wheel and the suby is fine. then maybe i could qualify. no one would be there to judge though. oh well.

Andy I think you are right. From the 2006 Rulebook:
Engine/Transmission:
A) Engine and transmission modifications are free. No modifications of OEM
firewall and transmission tunnel.
