A large portion of the infield is raised up several feet to form an inner crash barrier for the circle track. Great for random lava flows, but bad for shitty autocross course designs or out-of-control drift cars. It wouldn't be so bad if they put up some concrete barriers to keep people from just rolling off. There's literally nothing stopping you. After nearly going over myself once at an autocross I vowed never to drive another event at that place.

Hitting a wall: Messed up fender/bumper, possible body damage and bent wheels or control arms depending on speed. Sucks, but often easily fixed, even in the pits.
Falling off a platform: Engine/subframe/transmission/exhaust damage with a very high chance of frame damage along with everything else listed above. Sucks even more and can't be fixed quickly unless you happen to have spares for everything and a frame rack.
I'll take barriers, thanks.
