Re: matts doing things
hey matt
i'm doing about the same amount of cutting.
constructive critisism
the tension rod bracket is giong to probably put enough load to bend/break the front setup you got going on, you did square it off to an extent but that 1'' square and 1.5'' angle really isn't enough support for that setup. you need to run a bar connecting both sides of the framerails together at the front and then triangulate it back to the strut towers.
think of the force to compress your coilovers 2'', it happens, wheres that force gonna go? as derrick always tells me, ''follow the loadpath''

Re: matts doing things
i am not sure what you guys are saying right now. the whole rad frame and the part in front of it is for the inter-cooler. are not meant to do anymore but hold the coolers and the hood. not saying i am done with all the structure in the front but all the load parts are behind the rad if that makes sense. after all the cores are mount and the piping made i plain on making a front bumper/bash bar that will conect to the framing. not sure if anything i am saying makes sense but i want to get other stuff fitted before ading the front bumper member.

Re: matts doing things
Yea I'm not trying to have a pissing contest I'm just saying you may wanna rethink somethings and mike is right with telling you where to start. My front end was made to kill people and is over kill you dont have to go that far, but from what I can see in your pics the material your using isnt the heaviest and I have straight ripped the tc rod mounts out of my frame on rumble strips similar to whats at VIR. From what I see in the pics if you went though what I did your whole core support would bent and pretty much bend up your whole front end. I may be wrong with your material and its hard to tell in your pics but I am just trying to help you out and I think you and I are on different ends of extremes with front end structure.

matthew,
connect your strut towers/framerails/tension rod bracket mounting points/ radiator support better, and square everything back up with non home-depot thinwall 1'' square tubing.
i'm gonna use some undetermined size c channel into round stuff, i'll post pics in a couple weeks once i get started, but make sure everything is squared/triangulated.
look at where the load would go, and make that strong.

Re: matts doing things
So youre saying to make the face and titties stronger. Makes sense.
