gotta question + an explanation

Post by Lightning »

ok...a lot has happened to me since Spartanburg....

Long story short, I broke my elbow and had 2 screws put in.

Longer version of the story...I shattered the capitellum...into big pieces...by falling out of the back of a semi's trailer.

this happened on 9/11 at 11pm.

Now I've got a funky scar on my elbow.

Current situation:

I've got limited movement in my left arm. If 0-degrees is fully straight, I can only extend it to where it's at 35-degrees. as far as bending it goes, I can only bend it to 80-degrees, not quite fully bent.

I can at least now steer my car around with my left hand vs driving one-handed with my 5-speed. I'm just thankful that it happened to my left arm and not my right.

now my question is....if (for some reason) my arm doesnt get much better, is it physically possible to drift with my limited Left-arm mobility?
unhinged......no, not really.

There is always a way. There is a dude that drifts in Japan with hand controls because he's in a wheelchair. Shoot for the sky.

Sorry to hear you got injured. I'm fucking pro... so I feel for ya.
:(

GET BETTER NOW!!!

Physical therapy totally sucks... but STAY ON TOP OF IT.
Or you'll screw yourself (no pun) for life.

Like I said.
I'm pro.

i broke my elbow last winter snowboarding, and it took a couple months to recover full mobility. take it easy on the arm, you don't wanna do lifting or anything, but be sure to try to use it as you would normally. after a while, you should be able to use it just as you could before.

i'd strongly suggest not using a cast or sling, and that will limit your ability to use the muscles, and could result in permanent inability to use them.

.. you know you could always find a way to be an uber computer engineer nerd and wire up a ps2 controller to your car and drive it like in the D1GP game..

thanks for the support guys! Now all I need are one of those "I do my own Stunts" T-shirts.

I might have been a slight bit panicky when I had posted that.

I'm up to 90-95~degrees on the bending part now, and they've got me pretty much having a gallon of water hang from my left hand to pull it out to "un-jam" it (of sorts)

And all this does is give me more time to "wargame" new ideas for a car.

although an FC and an older Corolla or Celica are tops of the list, I have been thinking about doing a clone of a Caterham Super Seven...does this mean I'm finally starting to like smaller cars now? :?:

pfft. your thumbs work, right? just transcode your skills and become a video game drifter like myself. it might not garner as much respect as IRL drifting but it's much easier to fap to your own talents.

Good news!

I'm practically almost good to get back to driving trucks again. The Doc was surprised how fast I've been recovering (with my range of motion and all that.) I still can't extend my arm all the way (just 15-degrees shy) or bend it completely (at 116-degrees there). But it's definately good enough for the job. I only just hafta get my strength good enough to cover for when/if the truck blows a Power Steering hose.

I should be good to go the FOERST week of December. Then I can start saving again.
