Formula D vs. World Drift Championships (WDC)

Post by andysapp »

Battle Mike sent me two links this morning... the FOERST one particularly a topic for discussion. What do you guys think about the entry of the WDC to the "professional" drifting arena? Alex Pfieffer brings up some good points... as well as a coupla other FD drifters like Hubert Young in this post on drifting.com:
http://www.drifting.com/forums/showthre ... ge=1&pp=15

More info about Hard Drive, and WDC:

Personally - I don't see both series existing at this stage in the game. I feel like drifting as a "professional" motorsport is MUCH too young to have more than one series. It's one thing to have two series... it's another thing for one series to try and stomp out the other.

While tumbleweeds fly by in the wind... this post is barron like a ghost town...

It took me like an hour to read that entire thread. Pretty damn interesting. I think I'm dropping WDC off my checklist of events this season.

From what i have been reading, it sounds like invite only. Which is pretty dumb, what about us no-names. How are we supposed build are names up??

yup... WDC is "invite only" meaning only if you have made a big name for yourself you will be there. otherwise you get to sit on the sidelines and wonder why the can't do a big competition of this type just with more of an amateur driver base, to help bring some of us no-names into the limelight.

Thats a good but long ass thread, I had to stop at page 8.

I don't know about WDC now. As a spectator I will probably still go to their event in Atlanta. But if I was competing as a driver I would seriously reconsider taking part. I know for sure that I would always go choose FD over WDC in the cities that they double booked. Seems like HD/WDC just wants to take over what others have worked very hard for. The fact they are trying to take the spot as the top tier U.S. drift series even if it means spliting and destroying both series seems really greedy. Craig Liberman made some really good point about whats happening now and what happened to import drag racing 5 yrs ago.

I agree with you... I will not be attending any WDC events - as a driver or a spectator.
