Boycott WDC!!

After reading the drifting.com post. I feel that atlanta needs to, along with all other locations, boycott this shading organization. If they aren't willing to help up and coming drifters why should we as a fan give them are money, when they aren't going to help us grow as a sport. It seems to me that just want to take everything formula drift has worked for. I had some minor complaints about formula drift, but atleast they are working towards a goal everyone wants, close too.

Yeah they are good at shading. Its people like you that are into drifting because its the cool thing to do that are going to kill the sport.

I agree with you. At FOERST I was stoked to see a new drift series on the horizon... but the more I read about it, the more my eyes were opened to the fact that IT'S TOOO EARLY TO SPLIT DRIFTING INTO TWO SERIES. They are enticing drivers with "invite-only" status, big payouts, and paying for drivers/cars to get there - but the bottom line remains: a driver boycott is NOT enough.

It's the fans that will make or break this series. If fans opt out on attending WDC events, the money will not be made to support the endeavor - and the series will fail.

The judging for this series seems way off - the judges are road racers & such with little to no experience with drifting, and what it's about. I remember reading something about how burnouts will score you higher.

Since when are burnouts drifting? I don't want a judge to score me lower because I had less smoke but more angle than the guy next to me with shallow angle & massive rooster tail behind him.

This series has the biggest financial backer it can have: Primedia. It's not even the "brainchild" of Sport Compact Car... or any related import-based magazine. It's being pushed by Motor Trend... which as far as I'm concerned - has no goal of seeing drifting grow and evolve as a motorsport. They want in on the hot shxxxt while it's the big thing. They have all the money, and are using it as bait to get drivers and fans interested.

That article on drifting.com was the most informative thread I've read in a long long time. You know it's a big deal when all the FD pros were in on the thread with major concern... and people like Craig Leiberman stepped in. Even top-dogs at Modified magazine were in on that thread - as well as others I'm sure I'm leaving out.

I don't think people realize how serious this "top-tier takeover" could really be to this sport. Look at the Indy: Cart/IRL split. We all know what happened to import drag racing - and it wasn't pretty.

I will not be supporting WDC as a driver, or as a spectator. I honestly hope everyone does the same - because I want to see our sport thrive... not dive.

Formula Drift all the way... end of story.

nice post andy. all joking with adam aside, i also agree. not that i have ever been to a drift event or participated in one (hell, i've only been in rwd for two days), i plan on making as many as i financially can this year.

I think as far as bang for your buck goes - you can't beat DGTrials & US Drift events. You'll learn the most at those events, since they're geared towards a grassroots effort. From what Adam and Scott were telling me - you don't get a lot of seat time at FD - it's more of a venue to show what you've got, than to get practice & gain improvement - although any drifting is practice.

Not to mention how gawt-damned expensive it all is, lol.

The last US Drift event I was at cost $75, and I got well over 20 runs - which throws each run in the $3-4 range. THAT is a deal and a steal!

just thought i'd bring this back from the dead as i've just read from a few sources that WDC has officially been cancelled

. i don't have any completely confirmed stuff yet, but it's been going around online and sounds like it might be true. interesting...

they cancelled the whole series like a month ago, they sent out a press release saying its been "postponed indefinately" which just meant they didn't have their shit together to actually compete with formula d and had to get out while they could

I caught wind of this last Sunday at the SEDA event from the Lookout Kru. That would definitely explain the influx of FD participants. Last night I heard there are 80 people regged for FD NJ.

Anyway... If it is in fact cancelled... I'm glad. Like I stated earlier - I think it's just two early to try and run two major series like that.
