i decided to not sit idle tonight and to go do something, so i loaded up the bike and headed up to commerce to see what it feels like to run a 10 second quarter mile. as i approach the weather doesn't look too hot, but it also looks to be moving away from the track. so i wait in line for almost 45 minutes just to get in, find a spot to park, and unload the bike. never fails, the bike came off the truck and *crack!*, thunder rolls out behind me

. at this point i decided that i'd set up the easy up and hang out, but that plan lasted all of 5 minutes when we spotted a funnel cloud not far in the distance. so we scramble to load up the bike and luckily get it back in the truck and tied down. not 1 minute later all hell broke loose and the heavens poured down rain so hard i couldn't see the building 20 feet in front of my truck

. i thought about taking off but it was raining so hard it wasn't worth trying, so i sat there patiently while lightning struck all around and the rain turned sideways with the heavy winds that were building. i thought for sure that funnel touched down somewhere near by. then came the hail, LOTS of hail, also coming down, then sideways. everyone made a mad dash to park their cars next to a building and i managed to take up refuge at the end of one of the bathroom buildings to ease some of the battering the truck was taking out there. within around 10 minutes of the storm beginning, an oddity came to my attention.... 2 plastic trash cans floating straight out of the bathroom door and toward my truck. i pull ahead to let them pass and find myself in about 1.5 ft of water at that point, suprising but just the beginning.
i let the floaties pass and back into my little spot again waiting for noah to go floating by on the ark next. no ark, but in the main stream in front of my truck a large wooden pallet went passing by at a good rate of speed and knocked over a 55 gallon drum/trash can. at this point it's raining harder and harder but the hail has subsided, so i ventured out to play in the water and take some pics with the trusty cell-o-cam of the carnage. keep in mind this was ~30 minutes into this storm:
i passed the last concession building toward the end of the track and both bagged ice freezers had tipped and floated around on their sides

eventually one broke it's cord and i ended up pushing it through the water with my truck and off to the side so it didn't hit this
yes, that's an F250 with a car trailer in tow, left there during the storm. this spot was not the deepest, but it gives you and idea of how fast the water accumulated.
another bad cell cam pic
at the peak, the water was halfway up the sidewall of the back tire of the mustang
the heavy rain lasted another 15 minutes after this. the deepest i drove through with the truck was a little over 3.5 feet deep, at the deepest spot i estimate over 4ft of water (it was above the 55 gallon trash can/fuel drums). craziest storm i've seen in quite some time.
