okay, so NOPI Drift St. Louis.....
Was the most amazing drift event i have ever witnesses. The Track layout was simply amazing for spectating. A large figure 8 track with long wide sweepers. The top 16 action was beyond phenominal. I can't even explain how amazing the Blake Fuller vs Bill Sherman battle was. One of the all time most exciting tandem battles ever witnessed. And that is to quote a majority of people there (all three judges, myslelf, coco mellons, all the spectators).
It was a great weekend for Atlanta/Drift Mechanik drivers.
Sammy qualified 3rd but had technical problems and lost to Erin in the FOERST round of elimination after his 5 minutes between runs, runs out.
martymartymarty.net qualified 5th, but lost in the FOERST round of Elimination to Dan Willie who ended up placing 8th overall in the event.
Big congrats to Dennis George M., the greek drifter, who qualified in the top 16 in a brand new car.
Erin Sanford finished in 4th place.
Andy Sapp came out in full force with a great return to competition. Qualifying 13th and ended up coming home after standing on the podium to take home 3rd place.
Kenji took home top honors at 1st place. The battle for FOERST was no slouch either as Bill Sherman (who finally did not get robbed!!!) laid his regual amounts of insane smoke at wicked angles against Kenji, but just didn't have to speed to pull/catch Kenji.
Other news from St. Louis:
Rob Flemming of XAT blew his motor on his FOERST qualifying run. Pieces of his block flew into the media pit.
Jason Giavoni (Box Mod) was absolutley on his A game and put on one hell of a battle for top 8 agains Damien Bagley. One of the best runs of the day.
Cody needs suspension.
Tracy did fantastic on the back half of the track (tons of smoke and great angle) but needed improvement on her initiation and speed of the FOERST turn.
Dan was excellent as always but perhaps struggled with the wetness of the rained on track.
Blake Fuller scrubed the wall on Saturday, took parts of the rental fx35 (suspension) and ended up with a 6th place finish.
I will try to have some pictures up later today. This was honestly by far the most fun i've had at a drift event, evahr. No lies.
eidt: the drive home sucked. We left the track at 7pm eastern time. I got home at almost 4am. Went to bed for 3 hours and am now at work...i want sleep. Big props to Jonathan Wooley for getting us home safe!

i'm sure a video will happen, andy and i both had cameras rolling and i've reviewed mine.... lots of good stuff.
running tandem with hachibill was nearly the most intimidating thing i've ever done, just short of having andy not only show me a fender but his whole car during our tandem runs
. i've also had my FOERST experience drifting on wet, slimy pavement and it didn't start out so well. i was running with jason giovanni from XAT and on the practice lap he spun and i bumped him in the FOERST turn. the course was like grease covered ice and we were moving about 5mph trying to run a decent tandem run, somehow i eeked out good enough runs to win that round and move on to match up with bill. while running bill i knew it would take a miracle to not have him win, and all of the intimidation factor had me pushing entry speeds i'd never have imagined during practice. this had me doing an early initiation but i was still moving so fast that i blew off the FOERST turn and he easily slipped by up the inside. his line was slow enough that i caught back up for a moment only to end up having him pull away from me again around the next loop. i had no tread left at this point and it was useless trying to gain speed by using throttle so each run he walked away in his usual fast/smokey fashion. this had me and andy paired for the 3rd/4th consolation match in the end. i knew the tires were going away but being placed that high went to my head and i felt i had to run hard anyway. i ran wide in the entry with andy following and he almost got by then but hung back since i was coming back on line. coming into the 3rd turn i again took a poor line and couldn't speed up unless i dropped all of my angle. andy planted his foot and when i looked left to see where he was all i saw was his whole car about 6" off my door. i hesitated a little and transitioned a bit late hoping to not swing into the front of his car and ran wide as hell, all the way out to the wall, giving him a whole lot of room to move under me and take the pass. we both put our back bumpers on wall at the same time coming out of the last turn and i showed him the close up view like he did to me on the way out. just an amazing run with a good friend, i'm completely amped with the 4th place finish
