something shitty happened last night. just thought i'd share with you cats.

long story short -- CAI sucked up some water, shit died but the engine didn't lock ( THANK GOD! ), got her to the dealer via roadside assistance, this morning they checked it out & said they'd get back when it was working or they knew more, when i left for lunch i got a call that is was fixed. . .UNDER WARRANTY!

you HAVE to hear the conversation i had with the tech though. . .

i was leaving my office with the bossman & one of our new teachers when my cell rang with a number i didn't know. i answered with my standard "this is mike" greeting. a voice on the other end greeted me with a very southern, "hey mike this is 'rick' over at millenium [my dealer]". my heart skipped a beat. "man, i just wanted to let'ca know we got'ca all fixed up o'er here. did'jah oil & trrrurs [north carolina version of tires] as well." SWEET!

"well, what'd you find out, sir?"

"ya'see that new 'snorkel' of yours injested a bit'a water, now. we got all 'yer codes cleared out so she be purrin' again. but look, if this happens again, you might wanna think about going back to the original mazda equipment. then again, shit, keep'er on there for now. ain't hurtting nuttin', so i don't see the harm"

needless to say, i am fucking stoked that i didn't get totally hosed by a shitty dealer.

It's not fixed until you pull the pan and inspect the connecting rods. Trust me, I should know. I bought a car that choked, stalled, and started back up (knew the previous owner)...the dealer checked it out shortly after it happened and said everything was ok. I even checked the compression myself before I purchased the car and 5 days later.... *BOOM* TATATATATA....

Pulled the piston out that had the broken connecting rod and what was left of the rod on the piston was slighty bent and had oil stains at the break from hair line fractures. It took approximately 1,000 miles for it to break...not even running it hard at the time.

DAAAAMN! That was close! What kind of intake... err - snorkel ya runnin? Does it have one of those foam bypass sections like on the aem's?
Glad everything worked out, and the dealer didn't get fussy.

i've got an AEM ( the only brand currently available for the Mz3 ) but i'm not running the bypass valve. that stupid valve is known to kill any gains you might get from adding the intake in the 1st place.

i've just decided that next time it starts raining really hard, i am going to pull the fuck over for a little while. the car is WAYY to much fun with the intake to justify taking it off.
