I hate it. As some of you know, the clutch system on my S13 needed some lovin', and made this known while I was heading to the Andretti Speedlabs challenge. So given the symptoms, the clutch slave and master cylinders were replaced. Only one was bad, but how can you tell? Basically you can't, so both were done for good measure. Plus its only a 40 dollar job parts wise. With the help of a friend everything is installed and the system is bled. The car seems peachy until my FOERST shift into second where the same issue comes back, though not as severe. It turns out to be a failing pressure plate.

My philosphy-don't replace stock parts with upgraded units until they fail. When it comes to wheels, suspension, and a 1.5 way LSD, there are of course exceptions . Seeing how I need to replace the entire clutch unit I went for the CenterForce Stage 1 240sx replacement.



See the weights on the pressure plate? They operate on centrifugal force. The higher the engine RPM, the more it clamps. Interesting concept, which seems ripe for testing its effectivness in a drift application.

I managed to get the transmission dropped with the help of two other friends helping me out yesterday. Now the issue is we're all working or at school, which doesn't leave us enough time to get the flywheel off and resurfaced so that we can install the new unit and get everthing reassembled. Sigh. I did however find out that it wasn't just the pressure plate, but the actual clutch disc was glazed smooth as marble. I think the previous owner did a few too many late night drift missions in Massachusetts. This sucker was fried hardcore.
