broken open diff..

..So my car is on jack stands, and I thought it was something to do with the tranny. I replace the tranny with another and new slave and all that jazz and attempt to drive my car. However the driveshaft just spins, so then I take off the back case cover on my open diff and find a broken gear, both halves of it are laying inside. My question's to ya'll are:
Is sliding in an open diff (or trying too..) harder on the diff than if you were using a limited slip?
Does anyone have a writeup on welding a diff?
What does it mean when people say they have 25% lockup, someone told me quite a bit about lockup awhile back, but I forgotten.
How many people are using:
-Welded diff's
-After market diff's
or....
-oem LSD's?
Thanks in advance!

Go for a KAAZ all the way.
Worth every cent, and then some.

Kaaz just makes a 1.5 way for BMW's, is that any better or worse for drifting?

http://auto.howstuffworks.com/differential.htm
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Limited_slip_differential
These explains the difference between 1.5 and 2 way LSDs that will give you a better understanding of what they do so you'll understand what's what etc...

tire wear

I do just fine with the 1.5way. Only time I ever notice it is if I come in too hot, and have to jab the brakes real quick... and even then - it's noticed minimally. Plus, I'm pretty sure you could talk to Ray at KAAZ and see about a 2-way.

Yeah... $1300 was for my 1.5way for the e46.
That is just for the limited slip unit. Best avenue to take, is get a replacement pumpkin off car-part.com, so you can have little-to-no downtime. Just swap pumpkins, and rock out.

...soo you just get the internals? You think if I called him up this summer he could hook me up with a 2-way instead of a 1.5 way?
Also, should I do a Jstock suspension setup FOERST, or a 2 way? both are very important, but which one would help me the most??
