I can get my hands on a free Volvo 240GL that we can slap a motor into. Or perhaps someone else has a spare chassis we can trash. It doesn't cost a lot to build the car and participate and looks like a hell of a lot of fun.

The closest venue they have to us is Carolina Motorsports Park and is usually ran in mid July. Essentially we could sign up for this year's running at CMP, but the registration deadline is in two days. So, building/planning for next year seems more feasible.

Read up on it and lets see who's down for this (if anyone).

wooley and i just read through all that crap and it seems hilariously fun. if you're serious, i'd like to see if we can get s3 on board somehow (maybe trade an ad for entry fees or something? who knows). seems fun though.

Yeah.. they ran it at CMP/Kershaw this year.

Erik and I had talked about taking Ainsley's old S13 to do it.. but honestly I don't think the car was strong enough to make it.

doing it in a full frame car would be the best. that way you could just bash through everything. crown vics make great "race cars".

I've been wanting to build something for it ever since they did it the FOERST time. It looks like so much fun.
I thought about doing it in my crx but decided to daily drive it instead of demolishing it in a race lol.

We should do eeeet!! I can source cheap vehicles without much problem! i know where a $200 86 325e is right now, and possibly one camaro and a 4 door ef civic.

go fast or die

oh shit... i have an extra 1980 celica shell that would look awesome all boso'd out. me, cody, and erin talked about it once, but this would be even better. i'm willing to donate to the cause... though it'd be nice if i could keep the glass for backup for the '81 i'm putting all my good parts into.

that won't work. Straight cash, homie...

Some friends of mine just competed in the event last weekend = http://www.porcubimmer.com. They had some sponsors that helped out, but they still spend around $900 per person for their car and all the various equipment and expenses. They actually led the race for several laps, but ran into some mechanical issues.

You have the $500 car, plus tune-up items (timing belt, spark plugs, fluids, probably worth it to replace the radiator, new tires, etc). You should probably redo the suspension if you want to take the race seriously, lots of teams had an extra set or two of wheels and tires. Plus you HAVE to have a cage, safety net, no glass, FIA seat and harness, etc. And a lot of people welded on protective bars around the car to keep from being popped. Plus gas for the race car, gas for the tow vehicle, etc...

then there's entry fees - $500 per car in entry fees, plus $100 per driver, minimum 4 drivers.

This race often costs $3,000 to $5,000 per team to enter.

Oh, and you have to "apply" to get in. They only take a certain number of entrants, you can't just show up on race day with a car.
