Bad Thermostat?

How do you tell if your thermostat is bad? I went out drifting last night with some friends and my S14 was overheating like CRAZY. I just put a new water pump and 16" e-fan on yesterday...so I was thinking it might be my thermostat. Like seriously, 6 donuts and the car was ON FIRE...

LOL....

Okay, seriously...rough weekend...my water pump 'SPLODED yesterday, put some dents in my hood, cut some MAF wires, wrecked my 3-month old all-aluminum radiator...now I think my thermostat's bad.

Does my reasoning sound viable?

yup. pockets of superheated air causing that gauge to go apeshit and then add in the fact that a waterpump can't move air..

i say do both. bleed the air out and change thermostat. if that dosent work insert dynomite into car

Ooooh....dynamite...that's a good idea.

It looked like someone had slapped some C4 on my water pump yesterday. Like, I don't know WHAT the fuck happened....but 4 of the 5 bolts were still there, and chunks of the water pump were as well...

It was the most gnarly failure of a piece of equipment on a motor vehicle I'VE ever witnessed....

did you replaced the radiator as well? if so, how did you go about refilling the coolant system?

btw, i seem to recall telling you a few months ago that you would fuck it up...

yuuup just let all the air bleed out and might as well replace the thermostat before doing that b/c you'll have to bleed the system again anyhow when you replace it.
